Do you feel like you could use some support?

Seeing a therapist in San Diego can help you break free from feeling stuck...

Are you struggling to effectively communicate and break free from patterns that hold you back in your relationship(s)? Do you struggle with ADHD or low self-esteem? Perhaps you are experiencing grief or a difficult life transition and are unsure of what to do. Maybe you’re seeking help for your teen/young adult, so that they can have as much support as possible. You may not even entirely know what is getting in the way… you just know that you are struggling…

You're not alone... Struggling is just part of being human...

Therapist in San Diego, CA comforts client Struggling is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, I believe that it’s the difficult times that show how strong we really are and shape us into who we become. Even if it doesn’t look like it from the outside sometimes, everyone (yes, everyone) struggles… some just hide it better than others. Life throws curveballs throughout our journey and our job is to respond the best we know how. There is no manual and we are definitely not born with the answers, so it makes sense to reach out for help whenever useful. Like with anything else, reaching out can provide the clarity we need without the trial and error that we cannot afford; or just don’t have the time for. You don’t need to brave this alone. Help is available, and your mental health matters. You matter.

Why Book a Therapy Session with Me?

Spencer Chernick, LMFT - ADHD, Couples, Teens, Children - San Diego, CA 92109 I have years of experience working in various treatment settings with multiple age groups and topics. I have experience providing therapy to clients in community-based mental health settings, school settings and private practice. My specialties include working with couples, relationships, ADHD, low self-esteem, grief and life transitions.

After overcoming my own struggles with ADHD, grief, self-esteem and relationships through personal therapy myself, I know how daunting it can feel to even BEGIN to believe that things can change; especially for the better. This is why I was drawn to this profession. I know what it’s like to struggle and also know what it’s like to come out the other end. I want to be able to show you first-hand that it doesn’t have to be this way. Most importantly, you do not need to figure this out all on your own! You CAN live the life you deserve – feeling confident and engaging in patterns that you choose and benefit from. I would love to help you.

What Does a Therapy Session Look Like?

San Diego Therapist sits with Women on Couch I believe what is most important is that clients trust and feel comfortable with the work we do together. Although there are many ways to conduct a therapy session, my style feels more like having a conversation over coffee… and it just so happens that I have specialized training and years of experience on the subject haha. Just come as your authentic self, and I will do the same. I will provide a safe space for you to share whatever it is that you feel comfortable sharing and I will never have an agenda. Together we will explore your current struggles, identify any goals you may have, and establish techniques and strategies to reach them. As a positive therapist, I believe that we are stronger than we ever give ourselves credit for and able to overcome whatever life puts in front of us. I will honor where you are at in your process, while also empowering you to take the steps toward where you want – and deserve – to be.

You may have some questions about seeing a therapist in San Diego...

In the end, only you can really answer this one. If you are experiencing struggles or undesired patterns in your life, then therapy could be very helpful. Therapy allows you to explore whatever is interfering with reaching your goals and I would love to support your journey along the way.

In my practice, I offer both 50 minute and 80 minute session rates depending on what feels most beneficial to the client. My current fees are $150 per 50 minute session and $225 per 80 minute session, however I provide extended sessions upon request.

This is an incredibly important question, as I believe the most important aspect of therapy is that you feel comfortable and believe they have the experience and knowledge to help you. I suggest reaching out to as many therapists as it takes to feel like they are the right fit for you. For this reason, I offer a free 15-minute consultation so that we can have the opportunity to share and ask whatever we need to be confident that we would be a good fit to work together.
A therapist is an individual that has obtained a Masters degree, thousands of hours of experience and supervision, and has also passed their state’s specific licensing exams. A psychologist typically has a PhD or PsyD and may also conduct research and/or teach at a university. Both of these distinctions can provide direct client care in a private practice setting.
Although it is often used as a synonym for therapy, technically “counseling” is provided by counselors; which is often a reference to the difference in degree and expertise than that of a psychotherapist.
This is another one of those great questions that only you can really answer. It honestly just depends on what your specific struggles, goals for treatment, and stylistic preference when it comes to a therapist. There are numerous approaches that exist, so I highly recommend that this be one the questions you ask during any consultation you have to see if a therapist could potentially be a good fit. If you feel safe and comfortable talking to them, and their expertise lines up with what you want to work on, then you are well on your way!

You CAN live your life free from whatever holds you back... free to live the life you want and deserve
